Carter Newsom
Background
Carter Newsom was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, into a family who loves to worship through music. From an early age, she was challenged to go beyond her comfort zone and encouraged to expand her musical and leadership abilities. Her love of musical instruments began when she learned to play violin and later taught herself a little guitar. In her early teen years, her family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, after the Lord called them into full-time ministry. It was there Carter began to lead worship alongside her dad. Being so heavily involved in ministry during this time taught Carter what it means to love and serve the church well. Her involvement in church ministry would only increase when her family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a few years later. Carter and her family currently serve at Zoar Baptist Church in Baton Rouge where she is heavily involved in planning and leading worship. She senses a call from God on her life and plans to attend Leavell College in New Orleans to pursue a degree in Worship Ministry and Biblical Studies.
Passion
Carter feels called into full-time ministry in the coming years and plans to serve the local church. She has a passion for worshiping Jesus and leading God’s people in worship. Carter often travels with Lighthouse Music, which has allowed her to lead and learn alongside many different people, musicians and in many different churches. Outside of her involvement in the church, and with Lighthouse Music, Carter also enjoys photography, video editing and is an accomplished competitive swimmer. She is excited and expectant to see where the Lord takes her in the coming years and is ready to go wherever He leads.
A quote from Carter
“We have been given voices to sing, to magnify the Lord with one another. Music is a powerful gift the Lord has given us. We sing to remind each other of the truths about Jesus and, ultimately, to tell the Lord Himself how great He is. My desire in leading worship is for people to walk away with a better glimpse of who Jesus is, not by how well we as a band or I as an individual did, but because I desire for each song we sing to proclaim the Gospel so strongly that we have no ounce of glory to steal for ourselves. It is not about me or my gifts. It is all about the One to whom we lift our voices. His name is Jesus.”
